Wong 2004 Tournament
On August 15th, several members of Jing
Ying traveled down to Washington, D.C. for the Wong Tournament. Competitors
included veterans Lorianne Hoover and Sophie Hahn. In addition, this was the
first tournament competition for Billy and Lane Greer. Rounding out the group as
spectators were Shifu, Tippy Hoover, Chris Hoover and Glen Greer.
Lorianne placed second in forms competition, Sophie placed fourth in forms
(competing in the boys division!), and Billy placed fourth in the Seniors forms
division. In addition Billy placed second in Senior sparring and Lane placed
second in Intermediate sparring and third in advanced sparring.
Besides the fun of participating, watching other competitors, and meeting fellow
martial artists from all over the country, they were also able to enjoy several
demonstrations. Of particular interest were the demonstration of “chi” power,
and an incredible lion dance performance!
If you haven’t done it before, you really should consider participating in a
tournament. Besides being able to try out the skills you’ve been working so hard
to perfect, you’ll also have the chance to see some great competitors, watch
demos and show school spirit by representing Jing Ying. More participants mean
more fun!
